At death the body is separated from the spirit — I show this at the bottom of the painting. The body dies but the spirit does not; the spirit finds itself in the afterlife.
The spirit of one who died in God’s friendship will meet family and friends who also successfully made the journey’s end. It will be a wonderful reunion. All will rejoice together that they have been saved.
Convinced that we are saved while still on earth is the sin of presumption. Jesus told us that only those who persevere to the end will be saved. Therefore, we can never be sure of our salvation until the last breath we take. The state of our soul at that last second will determine if we are found faithful and thereupon redeemed, and welcomed to the grand reunion.
