The Fall and Rise of Man

Take a tour from de-creation to re-creation. Here is the fall of man, painted literally on the left side.

Center left is Eve choosing to be disobedient; on its opposite side is Mary choosing to be obedient. On the top right is Jesus Christ, the New Adam, ascending to the Father, raising with Him fallen man. In the center triangle are the saints cheering us on. In the lower right are the angels helping us on our journey, while on the lower left are the demons still trying to keep us from freedom. At the top center is the torch of freedom won for us by our Savior’s sacrifice on the cross (cross is under the torch). The alpha and the omega are the first and last Greek letters flanking the torch to symbolize that Christ is the beginning and the end; the Ruler over time and space.

As I painted this, other thoughts came to mind: Eve took from the fruit while Mary gave us the fruit of her womb, Jesus. Adam ate of the fruit from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, while we are invited to “taste and see that the Lord is good” (hence, the honeycomb-design in pink at the top). This is an acquired taste, which can be enjoyed sooner by means of, rather appropriately, fasting.
