If one were offered a chipped, cracked and soiled pot which was full of precious gems, would one accept it? Would an unsightly vessel be sufficient reason to render it worthless?
Every Christian, every member of the clergy, every church on earth and even the institution of the Vatican itself is like an earthen vessel, human and imperfect. Yet, within the Church is found a priceless treasure-trove.
Here is where we encounter Christ. We are offered countless gifts of grace through the sacraments. We receive the living word of God in the Bible. And we are assured of the true deposit of faith through the guidance of the Holy Spirit.
The fact that no mess man has made through the centuries has been able to destroy the Church proves that it is of God. In this earthen vessel Christ is the Lord who promised to be with us till the end of time.
