Seven swords pierced Mary’s tender heart. The first was when Simeon prophesized that her Son would be a sign of contradiction, even to herself. The second was when she was forced to flee to Egypt to save her baby from being slaughtered. The third was when she lost her twelve-year-old boy for three days. The fourth was in seeing her Son carry to Calvary, the instrument of His torture. The fifth was in watching the horrific and excruciating, painful murder of her Son. The sixth was in receiving His desecrated, dead body and the seventh was the ungrateful burial of Him who is the Author of Life.

Jesus’ heart had begun its first beating right beneath the heart of Mary when the body of Jesus was being formed inside the virgin body of Mary. Their hearts were to be forever linked so that while Jesus shed every drop of His blood for us, Mary shed her every tear.
